From the what to the why: heatmaps and recordings that respect privacy

Knowing that a page converts badly is useful. Knowing why it does is what lets you fix it. That's where behaviour — heatmaps and session recordings — complements classic analytics.

Heatmaps

A heatmap aggregates where your visitors click and how far they scroll. In Anonymetrics the coordinates are relative and anonymous: we store no screenshots and no content, only the density of interaction. You see at a glance what draws attention and what gets ignored.

Session recordings

A recording rebuilds the navigation of one session so you can watch it as if you were sitting next to the person. To keep that from becoming a privacy threat, we apply several rules by default:

• Form fields are masked at the source: passwords and anything people type are never captured.
• The Do Not Track signal is respected.
• Recordings are kept for 30 days and then deleted.

The why, at no cost to privacy

The idea running through all of Anonymetrics is that you don't have to choose between understanding your users and respecting them. With anonymous capture and masking by default, you get the context you need to improve the product without building a profile of anyone.
